"Rejection's a typical Tuesday. Although Tuesdays have their perks (tacos, anyone?), they're nothing worth getting worked up over. So why should we get worked up over a pesky rejection? We shouldn't."

Rejection’s Just a Typical Tuesday

February 4, 2019February 4, 2019 Georgia

I printed out the first rejection email I ever received for a manuscript. I read it 2,938,479 times (not really) before I stowed it away in an overhead bin like I’m on a plane and need to rid myself of … Continue reading Rejection’s Just a Typical Tuesday

"...at this stage, it's the same with writing. I don't have deadlines or a publisher breathing down my neck. I don't have readers waiting anxiously for my next book. I don't have anyone making me write at all. It's up to me. It's my decision to show up or not. "

How I Learned Self-Discipline

January 24, 2019 Georgia

Sometimes it’s hard for me to balance my interests and hobbies – writing and fitness. They couldn’t be more different from each other. Fitness requires physical movement, whereas writing is literally the opposite as it’s so stationary. But then I … Continue reading How I Learned Self-Discipline

"Live your best life, and all that it entails for you. Mine is exploring and enjoying this new city with my husband but balancing it out with my writing so that I can achieve my publishing goals. These goals haven't changed, so finding my center means cutting out too much noise so I can think clearly once again."

Finding Your Center

January 18, 2019 Georgia

I posted to my social media last week that my husband and I are finally settling into a routine, that we’re finally starting back with our hobbies and goals and life… but I spoke too soon. In my last post, … Continue reading Finding Your Center

"So after many back and forths, careful considerations, some stubbornness on my part, I decided in December, a couple of weeks before the new year, to take a step back from my goal of competing. I would go into 2019 with a determined, focus mindset to achieve my one true dream: writing."

Stay Focused

January 10, 2019January 10, 2019 Georgia

Happy New Year, y’all! I know I’m pretty far behind, as the first whole week of January has already come and gone—and then some—but I’m always late, so why stop now? I hope that your start to the new year … Continue reading Stay Focused

"This post may be coming to you late, but there's still time to turn on some calming music and pour yourself a glass of wine. There's still time for a mani/pedi, a good massage, or a nice stroll (if you're in a warmer state and/or not afraid of the cold!). There's still time to take a moment for yourself to relax, so you can enjoy all the holiday magic this time of year has to offer."

Peace Among the Holiday Chaos

December 22, 2018December 22, 2018 Georgia

December gives me the jitters. I always get excited for the holiday season. I love watching all the Hallmark Christmas movies, reading holiday romances, eating the gingerbread cookies. It truly is a magical time of giving – that goes for … Continue reading Peace Among the Holiday Chaos

"As nervous as I was to confront my husband about this, I took deep breaths and brought it up in a way he would understand. I explained that I needed quiet time without distractions, not because I don't enjoy talking all things golf and Tiger Woods, but because it's how I work. I laid out my process and asked him directly for what I needed: silence. This way, I could make my hour in mornings the most productive it could be." This post talks about asking for boundaries in order to be more productive for yourself. #TheRestlessWriter

Have the Conversation

December 17, 2018December 18, 2018 Georgia

One morning a while back my husband started doing the dishes at 6 AM – bless him. But the water running, dishes clanging, and his steady coughing/sniffling from week-long allergies – it was all giving me a headache. I was … Continue reading Have the Conversation

*Blog post on patience and trusting the process.* "....I miss just writing. I miss creating something new, thinking up new and quirky scenarios to put my characters in. New ways to present information. I miss the feeling of fresh words flowing. Filling up blank pages with words is so exciting for me, and it gives me a sense of purpose. So when I'm not writing, I get into this slump...."

*Blog post on embracing success and sharing it with friends.* "...don't be afraid to share your success stories with those around you. Be humble and gracious. Give thanks for those successes, but don't apologize for them. You deserve them. You deserve rewards for your hard work that's paid off, and you deserve to be able to celebrate, whether it's with a bath, glass of wine, or by laughing and smiling about it to your friends mid-workout as you both catch your breath from shoulder presses. Embrace your success and build upon it."

Why Not Brag on Ourselves?

December 6, 2018December 6, 2018 Georgia

My last post on reflection got me thinking about my progress. But also got me thinking about telling others of our progress and how that might come across as bragging. Which (because I tend to spiral – as we know) got … Continue reading Why Not Brag on Ourselves?

As 2018 comes to a close, let’s take the time to reflect our way to a better version of ourselves. In this blog post, I talk about how reflection has helped me improve and also appreciate my progress thus far:

Reflecting Your Way to a Better You

December 3, 2018December 2, 2018 Georgia

With the New Year around the corner, I’m really reflective lately. When I was in grad school, my TA supervisor required us to write a one-page reflection after each class we taught our first year. At the end of each … Continue reading Reflecting Your Way to a Better You
